Say I Wanna Know by Nick Waterhouse.
Funky.

Tightrope by Janelle Monae (featuring Big Boi).
The most ‘mainstream’ track off her breathtakingly inventive and exuberant album The ArchAndroid. And by breathtaking I mean repeatedly going “What the fuck? Where am…? Holy…!”
Anyone who cites Fritz Fucking Lang as a direct inspiration for an album…well yes, I forgot how damn good this album is.
The Way You Dream by 1 Giant Leap (featuring Michael Stipe & Asha Bhosle)
I’m kinda sorta really digging this song right now.
Wings of Change by Fitz and the Tantrums
On October 31 internationally and November 1 in the US, will see the release of The SMiLE Sessions in several formats: 2xCD and 2xLP, digital album, iTunes LP, and a giant box set. Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Mike Love all participated in the release. The SMiLE Sessions contain “an approximation of what was intended to be the completed SMiLE album, compiled from the Beach Boys’ original session masters,” according to a press release, plus bonus tracks, demos, and stereo mixes. The box set consists of five CDs, two LPs, two 7”s, a 60-page book, and “three-dimensional shadowbox lid.” The SMiLE Sessions’ artwork is based on the sleeve and booklet art Frank Holmes made for the original, shelved album.
Check out the full tracklists and more info at Brian Wilson’s website.
This is my favorite musical group and my favorite album, this made my day.
Brian Wilson FTW.

Something for Old School Sunday from Count Basie. The Count’s songs were actually one of those banned by the Nazis. It was considered degenerate music being that it was made by an African-American. Jazz, more particularly Swing, then became the music of those who went against Hitler and his henchmen.
I’m Waiting for My Man by The Velvet Underground
I miss old school rock.
Track of the Day: “August Town”
Guns, gangs, and other contemporary vices have changed things in August Town. The police presence is oppressive and apparently rather arbitrary. And what used to be a peaceful borough is now a place where parents can’t let kids out of their sight, for fear of losing them to stray gunfire. (You’ll see all of this represented in her video, below.)
Etana believes that there is a better way to live, and she’s speaking up, in a powerful defense of a more civilized, peaceful August Town. As far as contemporary reggae goes, it is refreshing to hear a strong female speaking up for her neighborhood.
I really wish we had more activist music. Just like I wish we had more real activist writers with new perspectives. Not the same tired old arguments repeated ad nauseum.
Primitive (The Way I Treat You) by Ambulance LTD
Kinda, sorta maybe. Hey the vibe works.
Relax, don’t think about the way I treat you
Yeah, easy for you to say.
So…apparently…
When making a story about the indie culture/lifestyle/Meiday, I can’t use a slow track like this O_O
I even INSISTED they browse the whole thing, and they said it’s too optimistic for the indie culture. So then I WTF’ed right?
Then sads descent here, cos really, there’s nothing more ironic than making a docu about independence and not having to use the track you want. :/
Reblog cuz it’s goooood.
